Book Meme
Judith tagged me with this meme a couple of days ago, but...well, you know.
1. Grab the book closest to you.
2. Open to page 123, go down to the fifth sentence
3. Post the text of next 3 sentences on your blog
4. Name of the book and the author
5. Tag three people
The book closest to me is The Lust Lizard of Melancholy Cove by Christopher Moore, one of my favorite authors.
Here are the three sentences:
"It's only one of the things I do. Mostly, I count dead things on the beach."
"Fascinating work," Val said with no attempt to hide her contempt.
I tag...Claudia, Pickled Olives, and Ramo.

This is a great little exercise. I'm amazed at how three sentences can be so enigmatic yet so revealing about the book!

that's actually the best "meme" I've ever heard of.... That's the perfect jumping off point for a creative writing class.....

Nihilistic-
Yeah, it sort of leaves you hanging, doesn't it?
Claudia-
I just checked it out. Fantastic! And I thought mine was good...
Jocelyn-
It's strange seeing one of your favorite authors excerpted like that. Even if you're the one doing the excerpting!
Steve-
OMG, I know, right?
Val is just a perfect name, isn't it?
Matt-
Really good point. Rhizomatic writing is interesting as hell, isn't it?

By Pickled Olives, At December 22, 2006 at 7:40 PM
Olives, I officially adore you. Two years ago, my wife bought me signed copies of all his books for Christmas.
By Crankster, At December 22, 2006 at 8:39 PM
Gasp, gasp, gasp - signed copies? I am SOOOOOOOOOOO jealous. Who is better than you? You are like God to me right now.
By Pickled Olives, At December 23, 2006 at 9:29 AM
Yikes! I am so short of books in my new place. But I got one book in my suitcase I guess!

I’ll have to check out this Lust Lizard, something tells me it’s not what I think it is.

I can't help it--I'm a total book junkie.
Ramo-
This might be a good excuse for finding a bookstore in your new neighborhood.
CEO-
We talk funny? You ever gotten caught in the middle of an engineer's conversation about Star Trek?
Slaghammer-
In some ways, it's exactly what you think it is.
Hearts-
Right back at you! And a happy new year!

I decided to do a bit of wandering around this evening and found your blog a great read. I want to post this meme on my blog, but I'm laughing too hard. Can I just share instead?
The break is ground so the head sits firmly and erect. Very graceful design and well drilled. Piece has been restored.
I swear, I'm not making this up. The book nearest me was one I had been using for research on a story I just wrote. It is North American Indian Artifacts by Lar Hothem.
